Our methodology

How we research, evaluate, and compare 696+ financial platforms across Europe

Last updated: March 2026
Our process

From research to your screen

1

Research

We identify platforms through regulatory databases, industry directories, and user submissions. Every platform must hold a valid license from an EU/EEA financial regulator.

2

Data collection

We collect fee structures, features, supported countries, and regulatory information directly from official sources: platform websites, regulatory filings, and published fee schedules.

3

Verification

Data is cross-referenced against at least two independent sources. Fee information is verified against the platform's live pricing pages. Regulatory status is confirmed via the relevant authority's public register.

4

Ongoing updates

Our database is reviewed monthly. Fee changes, new features, and regulatory updates are incorporated within 30 days of announcement. Pages display 'Updated [date]' to show freshness.

Evaluation criteria

What we evaluate

Fees and pricing

Trading fees, account fees, withdrawal fees, currency conversion charges, and hidden costs. We evaluate the all-in cost, not just headline rates.

Regulation and safety

License status, deposit protection scheme membership, fund segregation practices, and the platform's track record with regulators.

Platform quality

User interface, mobile app quality, available markets and products, research tools, and the overall trading or banking experience.

Country availability

Which of the 30 European countries are supported, language availability, and any country-specific restrictions or features.

User experience

Account opening process, identity verification speed, customer support quality, educational resources, and help documentation.

Scoring categories and weights

Fees and costs

30%

We evaluate all-in costs including trading commissions, account fees, withdrawal fees, currency conversion charges, and any hidden costs. Lower is better, with extra credit for fee transparency.

Regulation and safety

25%

We verify regulatory licenses, check deposit protection schemes, assess fund segregation practices, and review the platform's security track record.

Product offering

20%

We assess the range of available products, supported markets, order types, and any unique features that add value for European investors.

Ease of use

15%

We evaluate the account opening process, platform interface, mobile app quality, and the overall user experience for both beginners and experienced users.

Customer support

10%

We assess available support channels, response times, language support, and the quality of educational resources provided.

Each platform is scored from 1.0 to 5.0 in each category. The overall rating is a weighted average of all category scores.

Ratings are reviewed and updated quarterly, or sooner if a platform makes significant changes to its fees, features, or regulatory status.

Our ratings reflect general quality for a broad European audience. Your personal best choice depends on your specific country, investment goals, and experience level. A platform rated 3.5 overall might be the best option for your specific needs, while a 4.5-rated platform might not serve your country.
